AVERY WARM WELCOME TO MARPLE

This weekend, the committee, parents and players of Marple Athletic Junior Football Club will welcome 40 different teams into our community for a fantastic weekend festival of football.

Basically, it’s seven-a-side, the games will be a minimum of six minutes long, as much as eight minutes in some age categories, but we’ll clarify on the day.

Registration is from 9am on the mornings, 1pm on the afternoons

  Saturday        12 July 2008             Morning          U7s/U11s

Saturday        12 July 2008             Afternoon      U8s/U12s

Sunday           13 July 2008             Morning          U9s/U13s

Sunday           13 July 2008             Afternoon      U10s/U6s

Please note that the qualification criteria for all age groups will be as for the 2007/2008 season.

We’re a Charter Standard Club, we like to think we’re a friendly club and we want this to be a friendly and fun tournament. Obviously it’s a competition, but please remember to be respectful and sporting towards each other during the tournament.

St John Ambulance will be on hand to administer First Aid if necessary.

Becky Want from BBC Manchester and Channel M will be presenting the trophies on Saturday, while Channel M television will be at the tournament on Sunday.

We have five pitches where games will take place. These will be named:

OLD TRAFFORD (large, but quiet),

EASTLANDS (sorted by the council),

EDGELEY (earthy and local),

WEMBLEY (corporate fans don’t watch the full game)

and EWOOD (half empty).

Snacks will be served at the clubhouse. All our burgers are locally sourced quality beef. We can’t vouch for the sausages.

Tuck shop (thanks to Swizzells Matlow)

There’s and ice cream van too

We’ve also Bouncy castle

Souvenir photographs provided by DE Photo (www.dephoto.co.uk)

Cake stall

Tombola

Have a great day.

 FUNDRAISING FUN
Thanks to everyone who has helped with fundraising, especially at the Swimathon in March. This all helps our funds which means we can drive down the costs of the Fleetwood tournament in May. Any fundraising ideas, or if you want to sponsor us, please contact Andy Coop, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

PAGS - NOT WAGS

As an FA Charter Standard Club we recognise that good behaviour from  PAGs (Parents and Grandparents) is essential at all times. We encourage our own kids, but applaud every member of the team, and the opposition. We're there to help the kids enjoy their football and have a bit of a laugh with each other too. It also helps when each touchline has its own wealthy and generous benefactor who supplies enough toast, bacon rolls and a large flask of coffee for everyone. In the case of the Under 9s, this is Dave Riley (centre). We also encourage parents to take the FA Soccer Parent course, which you can read about on our parents page, here.

GOLF DAY

We held a golf day on the 25th of April to raise funds for the club. A great time was had by all. Thanks to Mel Hamilton for working so hard to organise it.

  TOUCHLINE TRAUMAkids.jpg

There's a new book out that may be an amusing read for Marple Athletic parents. Jim White's You'll Win Nothing With Kids was written following the trauma of running his son's junior football team. You can order a copy from Amazon, or ask for it in the Marple bookshop. There's a longer review on the parents page, here

TOURNAMENT NEWS

FINAL COUNTDOWN

At the Vulcans tournament on the 6th of July the Marple Athletic Under 10s won their second tournament of the year, adding to their victory at the Fleetwood Cup in May. Well done lads.

The Under 8s got to the final of the Signol Tournament, depsite playing with one player short. Superb.

The Under 9s did very well at the Stockport Metro League short sided 6-a-side tournament on Saturday the 5th of January. The A team got to the final, only to be beaten by Stockport Junior Blues. The B-team narrowly missed qualifying through the group stages, where they finished 3rd in their group of 8.

There's a picture of the runners-up trophy on the Under 9s section, here.
